Acupuncture

An Integrated Approach

Acupuncture therapy is available within our other treatment therapies such as hands-on treatment and exercise therapy. It is done so within the background of clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice.

Please note that I do not offer acupuncture as a stand-alone treatment.

Research shows that 70% of people gain relief after treatment...positive reactions are often noted when more conventional treatment techniques have been unsuccessful.

Acupuncture is an effective Chinese and Western remedy that is used as an integrated approach to alleviate the symptoms of:

  • Chronic / acute pain

  • Sports injuries

  • Arthritis

  • Back / neck pain

  • Muscle problems

  • Migraines / headaches / stress-related tension

The traditional (Chinese) view is that energy (QI) flows through the body in channels called Meridians, when the body is in a healthy state. If there is a problem, energy stagnates which leads to pain. The stimulation of appropriate acupuncture points by the insertion of a fine needle frees this energy. When stimulating an acupuncture point the brainproduces natural pain-relieving chemicals called endorphins. These assist the body to heal itself and gain pain relief.

Acupuncture does not work for everybody or every condition, but research shows that 70% of people gain relief after treatment. Often acupuncture has a cumulative effect where pain relief builds up as treatments progress. Some people react quicker than others. Chronic conditions often take longer to respond and occasionally become worse at first, but often respond well after this initial phase of discomfort.

Case Study: Client Story

After listening to R’s history and completing a diagnostic clinical assessment I was able to confirm that he was struggling with whiplash due to the way his neck had moved during the car accident and the symptoms that he was displaying.

I used soft tissue massage and passive stretching of the neck to help release the tension as well as explaining to R how the use of heat and completing his stretches and postural exercises will help his recovery.

 R Firth Review

"I would highly recommend Beth.

After being involved in a car accident I was struggling with neck and back pain. I went to see Beth and within a few sessions I was headache-free and pain-free in my shoulders, and she did acupuncture and gave me exercises to help with my

neck.

I now have regular sessions with Beth just for maintenance."
